Green Talk from the Workers’ Observatory, followed by branch business

For March’s Branch Meeting, we will be joined by a guest speaker from the Workers’ Observatory, collective of delivery riders and researchers in Edinburgh.

Marion Lieutaud, researcher at the Workers’ Observatory and lecturer in Social Data Science at the University of Edinburgh will be talking about Falling Pay and High Risk – Food delivery riders working conditions and collective organising in Edinburgh.

Over the last few months, riders from the group designed a survey about working conditions and collected responses from their comrades. We will hear about some of the shocking results about the precarious working conditions riders face, as well as how the survey helped as an organising tool in building a collective. Results from the study were covered in the National and the Edinburgh Inquirer.

We will also hear from Edinburgh Green councillors about ongoing efforts in the local authority to improve conditions for gig workers, and how the council could be doing better.

This Green Talk from 7:15 to 8:05 is open to the public both in-person and online.

It will be followed by a short break then branch business for members only until 9.15.

Accessibility

Our aim is to have branch meetings that are both in-person and online.

There is a break during meetings, and we offer tea and coffee with plant-based milk and a biscuit, including a vegan option. Water is available on request. Donations for tea/coffee/biscuits are welcome
