Firework Control Zones

Friday 23 August

Fireworks have important religious and cultural significance, but concerns have been growing about the impact of firework use on our environment, and also animals and vulnerable people.

Edinburgh Council are considering putting in place Firework Control Zones in Edinburgh and would like your views on this. A Firework Control Zone will mean that certain fireworks will no longer be permitted to be set off in these areas.

The Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022 empowers local authorities to designate Firework Control Zones in their area. Within these Zones, no use of fireworks would be allowed without a licence, unless the fireworks are part of a public display.

Edinburgh Greens support controls covering the whole of the City of Edinburgh boundary area so that our environment, animals and vulnerable people can be protected, wherever they are.
